It’s difficult to find a foundation that can withstand the sweat and heat of a fast food kitchen. It’s equally as difficult to find a moisturizing face cream that actually removes dirt and caked on foundation at the end of the day. That’s why, when I received sample products from Willing Beauty, I didn’t have exceptionally high expectations. Just like any other young woman, I’d already picked out my favorite brand of makeup and began religiously buying my favorite products. I had tried other direct sales companies like Avon, Mary Kay, and others, but I never liked the way the products left my skin feeling. I always experienced a sort of “after funk” with these company’s products, and that’s the last thing any hardworking woman wants to deal with at the end of a long work day.
Although my expectations weren’t high, I was impressed with the packaging before I even pulled the products out of the box. I know it isn’t something that particularly affects the quality of the products, but it is refreshing to open up an ugly brown box to a clean, crisp, blue pattern and fresh tissue paper. The products were packaged just as neatly as the box had been set up. The bottles were a beautiful sky blue, or an ocean blue, depending on where your imagination wandered off with the color to, first. There was a gold heart on the front of each bottle, as if to say they were all made with love, There was 5 different products in the sample box, full size mind you, and I was a very happy camper.
Before I describe any more, it’s important you know that I split these products up. I didn’t think it would be very sensible to test an anti-again formula on a woman that hasn’t even yet reached her 20’s. So, I gave my mother/business partner a chance to try out the overnight serum and the anti-again formula. I, on the other hand, focused on trying out the moisturizing foundation, “Do Over” nourishing day cleanser, and other HY-5 product, the last of which I didn’t get to use all that often, because I was too obsessed with the cleanser and foundation, both of which completely rocked my E.L.F. Cosmetics loving world.
I’ve made good use of the foundation in the past couple of weeks. Actually, I wore it earlier today. I’ve worn it to work multiple times. I wore it to a Vacation Bible School cookout, and sat by the campfire the entire night. Guess whose face didn’t melt like the wicked witch of the west? THIS GIRL! It held together very nicely, and it compliments my skin tone, perfectly. At first, I was afraid the foundation was going to be way too dark. Granted, some shades of porcelain end up being too dark for my chronically pale skin. However, it blended wonderfully once I got it on my face. In fact, it blended so well that I didn’t even have to use my powder foundation in addition to it, as I had honestly expected. It doesn’t feel heavy on my skin, and it doesn’t make me feel like I’m being smothered, which is something I sometimes have difficulty with when trying out new brands of cosmetics. Plus, this foundation was actually just a tinted moisturizer, so it really helped hydrate my skin. It also had built in sun protection. Like I said before, I’m as pale as they come, so any sun protection is a good idea.
Next up on my list of products to test was the “Do Over” Nourishing Cleanser. My first impression wasn’t all that great. If I’m being completely honest, the scent lacked something to be desired. Then again, I wasn’t supposed to be testing an essential oil. I was supposed to be testing a face cream. Maybe real, working products aren’t supposed to smell like Amber Sunshine or Midnight Freesia. Maybe the entire cosmetics industry has us fooled. I say that they may have us fooled, because the product actually worked pretty well. I’m not the type to have horribly oily skin, so I can’t speak for the masses, but it did get ALL of my makeup off, and it did make me feel refreshed after 10 hours of being on my feet, which isn’t an easy task to accomplish.
As I mentioned, my mother tested the other products. The scent of the products was a bit strong for her. She’s really sensitive to strong scents, so she took the product off after a few minutes to avoid contracting a headache. However, she LOVED the way the products made her skin feel baby soft! She said that nothing had made her skin feel that soft and refreshed in a long time. It wasn’t greasy, and didn’t make her feel like she was smothering (she has the same issue as I do). It wasn’t heavy on her skin, and didn’t leave behind an uncomfortable residue.
I don’t want to keep any of you reading for too long. I know you have lives to live and you still need to save a few spare moments in order to shop Willing Beauty products at: Annette Johnson's Willing Beauty Shop Page! Or, you could keep up to date with her latest products and sales at her Facebook Page, "Willing Beauty with Annette J"!
So, I’m going to wrap this up. All in all, these products are just as useful as the stuff you’re going to be able to find at your local cosmetics store. In addition to getting an illuminating glow, you’ll also get some peace of mind that you supported a local, startup business when you buy these products. As I always preach in this blog, we should be buying from individuals before corporations. We should be supporting aspiring entrepreneurs. Especially when the prices are as reasonable as you’ll find at Willing Beauty. I’m not much of an anti-aging night cream girl, not for another few years at least, but I’ll definitely be purchasing more of that tinted moisturizer, because come on, I slay in it.
