Build your career without sacrificing your life.
No one expected it (unless it was just I that didn't receive the memo) and not many are too fond of it. It's the new Instagram of 2016. There is an entire new social icon for the app **ALERT: This is a MAJOR Marketing No-No**, and there are multiple new features within the app. Some of these features have made my social media life at least 10x easier, other features are better left inside the little toilet drain thing. I never use them. Honestly.
THE USELESS: Snapchat or Instagram...Instagram or Snapchat? I ask myself this on a daily basis. Unfortunately for Instagram, I always choose Snapchat. Why would I want to update my Snap Story on Instagram? This was a copy-cat move in my opinion, and not a business-savvy one at that. If Instagram was going to steal ideas with this fresh new update, I would have much rather they steal from WordPress. Introduce Instagram themes. (I promise if any Instagram makers are reading this, and you decide to take my advice, I WILL NOT sue you. Just do it. We all want it.) Seriously, I've been trying to make my Instagram stand out with cool themes since I started snapping (I can see where it was easy for them to decide to copy Snapchat) photos back in 2013. This is a big deal. Right now, I'm limited to posting my photos in a certain order of filters to create a cool look. I'd much rather be able to post what I want, when I want, and still be resting assured that it all ties together with a cool theme. I'm thinking galaxy backgrounds and interactive emojis...but that's just me.
THE GOOD: Who is this person? Oh...I should follow them? Okay... Instagram "recommendations" or "suggestions" or whatever they're calling it these days is the best thing to ever hit Instagram. I first stumbled upon this feature when a man commented on one of my recent photos "Cool page! You were in my recommended list, so I thought we could link up!" If you've ever try to run an online business, or an business in general, you know what my first thought was: A new potential customer that I didn't even have to fish for... *insert evil genius laugh here*. I've gotten quite a few new followers this way, and they aren't ghosts. They were active enough to check their lists, so they're active enough to like my photos. I've been very pleased with this part of the update.
So, what's next, Instagram? With my luck, it won't be WordPress-like themes, it will most likely be Facebook-like reactions.
Oh well, at least then I'll get to express my anger when someone posts a selfie that is prettier than mine.
