Happy 23rd Birthday Niall Horan! You’ve seen him all over Twitter today, and now you’re going to see this happy-go-lucky little Irishmen light up my blog! This Irish singer-songwriter and guitarist is best known for his time as a member of the band One Direction (2010-2015). Directioner’s around the world fell in love with Niall’s notorious sparkling blue eyes and pretty smile. They quickly fell in love with his music as well. For the band’s first album, Niall wrote more than a couple songs. “Taken”, “Everything About You”, “Same Mistakes”, and “Summer Love” are some of the more popular songs that Niall had the pleasure of co-writing with his bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Liam Payne. In the later years, probably better known as the pre-hiatus year of 2015, Niall’s music also became a big hit on the band’s 5th album “Made In The A.M.”. He co-wrote songs on this album such as: “Temporary Fix”, “Never Enough”, and “AM”.
Niall isn’t just about music, he’s also been known to support some sports during his time in the spotlight. He’s been spotted out at the Australia Open twice, and it seems as though he never misses a football game when Derby County is playing. He’s also a fan of Cricket, and played Gaelic Football as a child. Now, he isn’t as much into those sports as he once was, but he has discovered an undying love for Golf. Creating a golf agency through Modest! Management, Niall has found a way to incorporate his love for the sport into his solo career since the hiatus.
Niall is loved by his friends, family, and fans for many reasons, one of which is the charitable work that he does every single year. It was announced back in April of 2016 that Horan would take on his former fellow bandmate, Louis Tomlinson, in a football match for charity. Niall would be playing for the Ireland team, and Tomlinson would be representing the England team during the match. It was a tough, but fun, game for all parties involved. The event was labeled “Soccer Aid” and supported UNICEF.
In the following month, Niall was seen to be at it again with the charity support. The Horan and Rose foundation was launched with the help of his golf-buddy Justin Rose. The duo hosted a gala that ultimately brought in over $800,000, with more than $560,000 going towards Cancer Research for UK kids and teens, and the remainder being split between Irish Autism Action and the Kate and Justin Rose foundation. That was a very special night for not only the charities, but One Direction fans around the world as well. Niall Horan took the stage with another famous pop star, Olly Murs, to impress the guests at the gala. Justin Rose, 35, even joined the boys on stage at one point during the show, where they gave him a very warm welcome, especially considering Olly had been so active on stage that he had broken a sweat at that point. Louis Tomlinson was in attendance, and was mischievous enough to share a very unflattering photo of Niall Horan on Instagram, which started racking up likes in absolutely no time, of course.
All of this charity work has been reminding the fans (or maybe its just me) of a simpler time in the One Direction fandom. A time when we still had all 5 of our boys standing on stage together, smiling. A time when Harry, Niall, Zayn, Liam, and Louis all packed up and visited Ghana for Comic Relief. The charity work that they did with the children in that country was admirable, and certainly something the fans will never forget. So, Happy birthday Niall. We are glad to see you happy, but hope to see you back with the boys soon!
