Build your career without sacrificing your life.
There are hundreds of direct sales companies on the block, and even more network marketing companies that refuse to label themselves as “direct sales” in fear that they will send potential customers running in the other direction, although that’s pretty much exactly what they are. These companies have hundreds, often thousands, of affiliates, so it’s safe to say that everyone knows someone who has tried network marketing at some point. A lot of people have dubbed it a “scam”, when in reality they didn’t have the marketing skills they needed to be successful. That’s not to say there aren’t scam companies out there, because there most certainly are. However, not every multi-level marketing company is going to rip you off. After all, people go to college for years to get degrees in marketing, why should the random average individual believe they can run an entire personal business with no prior experience? As someone who has been network marketing and online marketing for upwards of 4 years now, I’m going to let you in on a major secret: the 3 biggest mistakes you’re making when it comes to network marketing.
First of all, you have to keep in mind that you’re branding yourself. If you don’t follow through on promises, or you do nothing but post in random Facebook groups three times each day, then you’re branding yourself as a scam artist, and that’s what your entire potential pool of customers are going to brand you as. Once you’ve set this image for yourself, it’s pretty much set in stone, so you have to be very careful not to make yourself look spammy, regardless of how excited you are about your company in the beginning. One way to combat this is to build legitimate relationships with your potential clients and partners. I’m not talking about the kind of relationships that send you out on fancy dates or makes you propose, I’m talking about the kind of customer/business relationships that remind you why one of your clients just bought that cocktail dress, or which of your clients are going through a tough time and could use some extra cash. Thanks to status updates and the wonderful world of social media, this is a bit easier to accomplish than it was in the days of door-to-door selling.
Second of all, you need to remember that visual effects are everything. If your website looks sloppy, that reflects on the entire business. By sloppy, I mean hard to navigate, displeasing to look at, or confusing for the customers that may not be so tech savvy. Another part of this is grammar and spelling. If you can’t type proper English, many people won’t want to sign on as your recruit. Obviously, your grammar isn’t always a reflection of your marketing skills, but in the average human brain, the two are very closely related, because they’re both fairly simple to learn and majorly based on effort. One way to keep your grammar and spelling in check is to read more and make sure to proofread and edit any blog post, status update, product description, etc. If you’re looking to improve the layout of your website, there are professional options, or you can attempt to do it yourself with a little coding!
Next up on the list of importance is attitude and enthusiasm. If you don’t genuinely love the products and care about the company, then your recruits aren’t going to love the products and care about the company, and your potential customers won’t find your products worth purchasing. After all, you’re trying to sell these products! This can’t be a just for money ploy, you should love these products more than even your most loyal customer, and if you don’t then there is a very serious problem, and you should either address your concerns with the company’s management team or choose to resign and find a different company. If it’s the work itself that has you down, there are other options in that department, as well. You can work from home in many different ways, you don’t have to result to network marketing if it’s not something you enjoy.
If you’re online and you’re looking for leggings, you’re in good company. They’re cool, versatile, and stylish, so naturally, all of the major pop culture influences are wearing them. Whether you’ve paired them with a skater dress or a sweat-inspired tank top, you’ve got the perfect outfit to get you throughout the day.
Personally, I’ve never worn a more comfortable or better fitting pair of leggings than those that I received from Abby + Anna. Abby +Anna is a direct sales company, as are most of the companies that I’ve been writing about lately. They are set apart from Legging Army, La La Leggings, and other legging companies, because they have much more than tights to offer! Also equipped with skirts, dresses, and other women’s fashion, this online retailer is BOOMING! It’s not difficult to figure out why, once you have a piece of their fabric pressed up against your skin. It’s softer than silk, breathable enough for even the most hot-natured individuals, yet warm enough to wear outside on an Autumn day. Their outfits are colorful, bold, and stylish. They keep up with the latest trends, and their material is always well-stitched. There’s really not a good reason to avoid checking out their website. The clothing fit me, it fit my mother, and it fit my best friend. Not to mention, I’m sporting a BEAUTIFUL country-themed keychain on my purse, right now, courtesy of an Abby + Anna distributor.
Why should you support Abby + Anna? Well, it’s not really as much about the company, as it is about the people representing it. Like all other direct sales companies, independent distributors spread the word about their favorite Abby + Anna products, and try to get their friends and family to buy under their shop, in order to receive a commission that will let them pay their bills, take their children to a movie, or even buy family groceries for the week. It’s very difficult to support yourself solely on a direct sales income. Not because the money isn’t legit, because it really is, and not because the work isn’t worth it, direct sales has been one of the most rewarding positions I’ve held, but because the money isn’t steady or guaranteed, but the bills are.
Recently, I came across a woman with one of the kindest hearts I’d ever seen. She wanted me to review her products on my blog, like I had with so many others before her, but when I found out that this lovely lady has been battling Leukemia for over 6 months. She’s a wife, a mother, a businesswoman, and a human being. She’s trying to pay for her chemo, her daughter’s wants and needs, as well as her husband’s medical treatment, which he hasn’t been able to seek due to their lack of finances. I understand the struggle of seeing “Cancer” pop up on a test result, and it isn’t a pretty sight. It’s almost safe to guess that if you’re reading this, cancer as touched you or someone you love in a difficult way, as well.
With all of this in mind, the quality of the products, on top of the personal need of the independent distributor that’s just trying desperately to keep her family afloat, I ask that each one of you reading this article take a moment to go look at her website. If there’s nothing you’re interested in buying, there may be a good Christmas gift or birthday present that you could pay forward. Thank you, my readers, for all the love and support you send into the hearts and homes of people whom you’ve never met. It’s truly amazing what can happen when a group of people get together and decide to make a change. You could change somebody’s life, or even save somebody’s life. So, when someone on the street asks you where you got that beautiful maxi dress you’re wearing, you’re going to be able to say from Misti Kirkland of Abby + Anna, in honor of a great cause.
The M Network isn’t a television channel or distribution center, it’s something that you actually need to be paying attention to, because it could boost your brainpower, your immune system, and even your overall energy! It’s not a crash-diet, weight-loss drug, and it’s not a hyped-you-up energy drink like you’d find at a convenience store. M STIKs are, as the company likes to say, “brilliant in their simplicity. A line of targeted nutrition – beyond hydration.”. Basically, M STICKs are flavor packets with a punch. They make your water feel like a treat, while in reality, you’re treating your health. As a sample, I received 3 flavor packets. One was a brain booster (pineapple), one was a GO STIK (raspberry, use for energy), and the last was COREAO (mixed berry, filled with antioxidants for immune boost). I expected these flavors to be sour. I worried that they might make me jittery or anxious. However, I actually had a wonderful experience with each drink, and I’ll be outlining that for you right now.
SMART STIK – This is the flavor that I first opened, and actually gave to my mother to try. She works in a medical records office, so she uses her brain and problem-solving skills every single day. She loves pineapple flavors, so I knew she would be a good critic for this drink. The benefits she was looking for included ability to focus, low-impact energy, and good flavor. She hates drinking water, so this had to be as good as its Kool-Aid counterparts. Surprisingly, she asked me if I had any more packets…when I said “no”, she was disappointed. She LOVED her drink, and wanted to share with some of the other ladies in the office!
GO STIK – My job is a little different from an office setting. I work in the fast food industry, so I’m constantly on my feet, on the go, multi-tasking, lifting, cleaning, cooking, and so forth. I don’t have time for grogginess or bad moods. I was looking for a drink that would stay cold and flavored in the break room, give me the high-impact energy that I need to get through the day, and NOT bother my anxiety. Some energy drinks make me anxious, which isn’t good in such a social environment, so I was looking for something that might even BOOST my mood…instead of wiping my smile away. That’s exactly what I found in this drink. The flavor stays strong and crisp for hours, even after the water has warmed up a bit. I was lighting on my feet, and kept a smile on my face the entire 8-hour shift, so I can’t complain about the results, at all.
COREAO STIK – This antioxidant boosting drink came just at the right time. There’s been a stomach virus travelling around town, and while I’m pretty sure I never actually caught it, I had been feeling pretty down and out, of late. I decided that this drink might perk me up a bit. Of course, I used it about a week after using the GO STIK, just to be certain that the effects couldn’t overlap. I still had a stuffy nose (allergies), but I wasn’t feeling as draggy or queasy, so it must have done my body a little bit of good, at least.
Did you know that the average adult human should be consuming 64 oz. of water per day? In all honesty, you probably aren’t hitting that goal. Even if you are, you’re more than likely eating salty or sodium-rich foods that counteract the water you consumed. With that in mind, these little flavor packets could be just the thing to prevent you from staying dehydrated. Each STIK is packed with a unique combination of the best natural ingredients to deliver vital nutrients to your body. STIKS do NOT contain preservatives or fillers like the drink packets you’ll find at the supermarket. So, every sip contains a bio-benefit.

I have a relative that’s been using Shakeology and Beachbody products for a while. I’ve been seeing her pictures, videos, challenges, and updates on social media. She’s been looking really good, and I’ve been wanting to jump right in there with her, but I figured I had neither the time nor the money to enjoy such a luxury. Thankfully, a very friendly consultant reached out to me via a Facebook direct sales group that I recently joined. She offered to send me some samples of Shakeology, and I offered to review those samples honestly on my blog to thank her for her kindness, and here we are. Let’s start with what she sent me: A packet of instructions/information, a personalized thank you card, a chocolate shake mix (not pictured because super YUM), a vanilla shake mix, and a Cafe Latte flavored shake mix. In the card, she pointed out that Café Latte is her daily favorite. I had to rank the chocolate shake just a tiny bit higher, but that’s only because I mixed it with other ingredients, which we’ll discuss later. If I were drinking the shakes straight, which is surprisingly delicious, I would have to consider Café Latte my favorite, as well.
Speaking of particular flavors, let’s break down the pros and cons of each flavor. We’ll start with Café Latte, since we’ve already spoken so much about it in this post. The coffee flavor was strong, but nothing you couldn’t “shake off” (see what I did there?) with a little creamer, or even some fresh fruit, much like you would a normal smoothie or latte. Since I like strong coffee, I was a big fan of this flavor, and I could easily see it replacing my morning cup of Joe. The chocolate flavor was a bit milder, more like a chocolate pudding than an actual piece of chocolate. I spiced it up a bit by adding a tablespoon of peanut butter, a banana, and a teaspoon of honey to the blender. So, I actually had a peanut butter and banana, chocolate smoothie. Be that as it may, this was my favorite flavor of all, and I believe I could have it every morning for breakfast without feeling deprived. The vanilla shake seems to be in an entire league of it’s own. I haven’t tried it yet, but not because I’ve got a problem with the shakes. I haven’t tried it yet, because I can’t figure out what I want to mix it with! My consultant sent me a page of 30 different recipes that the vanilla mix is used in. I honestly don’t know where I want to start, although I did see something about adding strawberries that looked pretty appetizing.
So, the flavors were good. As we all know, that isn’t the difficult part to figure out. I would eat a bag of potato chips every day, if I could, because they taste amazing. Unfortunately, taste rarely ever exposes the health qualities of a food. I say rarely in the place of never, because Beachbody and Shakeology is the exception to the rule that healthy foods don’t taste good. Don’t ask me how they did it, but the masterminds behind these drinks actually made prebiotics, antioxidants, plant-based protein, and all-vegan ingredients taste like a treat from the Heavens above! This stuff is seriously good for you, that’s why I’ve included a picture of the nutritional info to let you be the judge of that, yourself. These folks have nothing to hide. I can’t attest to any real weight changes or energy changes. I’ve only tried 3 packets, after all, and they weren’t even back to back. I can imagine that with so many superfoods in one drink, you’d have to feel some sort of difference, eventually.
Normally, I end these blog posts with an explanation of where I plan on taking my relationship with the products I’ve reviewed. Honestly, I’m going to give these products a 4.5 out of 5 stars, and the only reason I’m giving them a lower score is because on their website, you’ll find typical direct sales prices. That’s not something that I’m sure I’m willing to commit to full-time, just yet. I understand that the price is lower than buying a coffee at Starbucks every morning, but I never did that to begin with. However, I do see myself purchasing this multiple more times in the future, because I don’t believe I’m going to be able to live without my Shakeology.
If you have health or fitness goals that you're struggling to meet, you need to speak with Danetta Reed Keevill! She's the Beachbody coach that coached me through my first Shakeology experience! Get into contact with her at her Facebook page. She's more than a direct sales consultant, she's a coach, a mentor, a motivator, and a friend. As Diamond coach, she has all the tools she needs to help YOU succeed! If you're interested in the product or the program, shop at her link: beachbodycoach.com/daykeevill! Pro tip: If you think the prices are unattainable, there is a way to earn 25% off all products, making shakes just under $4 each, which is certainly reasonable when you consider that they're actually meal replacements!
It’s difficult to find a foundation that can withstand the sweat and heat of a fast food kitchen. It’s equally as difficult to find a moisturizing face cream that actually removes dirt and caked on foundation at the end of the day. That’s why, when I received sample products from Willing Beauty, I didn’t have exceptionally high expectations. Just like any other young woman, I’d already picked out my favorite brand of makeup and began religiously buying my favorite products. I had tried other direct sales companies like Avon, Mary Kay, and others, but I never liked the way the products left my skin feeling. I always experienced a sort of “after funk” with these company’s products, and that’s the last thing any hardworking woman wants to deal with at the end of a long work day.
Although my expectations weren’t high, I was impressed with the packaging before I even pulled the products out of the box. I know it isn’t something that particularly affects the quality of the products, but it is refreshing to open up an ugly brown box to a clean, crisp, blue pattern and fresh tissue paper. The products were packaged just as neatly as the box had been set up. The bottles were a beautiful sky blue, or an ocean blue, depending on where your imagination wandered off with the color to, first. There was a gold heart on the front of each bottle, as if to say they were all made with love, There was 5 different products in the sample box, full size mind you, and I was a very happy camper.
Before I describe any more, it’s important you know that I split these products up. I didn’t think it would be very sensible to test an anti-again formula on a woman that hasn’t even yet reached her 20’s. So, I gave my mother/business partner a chance to try out the overnight serum and the anti-again formula. I, on the other hand, focused on trying out the moisturizing foundation, “Do Over” nourishing day cleanser, and other HY-5 product, the last of which I didn’t get to use all that often, because I was too obsessed with the cleanser and foundation, both of which completely rocked my E.L.F. Cosmetics loving world.
I’ve made good use of the foundation in the past couple of weeks. Actually, I wore it earlier today. I’ve worn it to work multiple times. I wore it to a Vacation Bible School cookout, and sat by the campfire the entire night. Guess whose face didn’t melt like the wicked witch of the west? THIS GIRL! It held together very nicely, and it compliments my skin tone, perfectly. At first, I was afraid the foundation was going to be way too dark. Granted, some shades of porcelain end up being too dark for my chronically pale skin. However, it blended wonderfully once I got it on my face. In fact, it blended so well that I didn’t even have to use my powder foundation in addition to it, as I had honestly expected. It doesn’t feel heavy on my skin, and it doesn’t make me feel like I’m being smothered, which is something I sometimes have difficulty with when trying out new brands of cosmetics. Plus, this foundation was actually just a tinted moisturizer, so it really helped hydrate my skin. It also had built in sun protection. Like I said before, I’m as pale as they come, so any sun protection is a good idea.
Next up on my list of products to test was the “Do Over” Nourishing Cleanser. My first impression wasn’t all that great. If I’m being completely honest, the scent lacked something to be desired. Then again, I wasn’t supposed to be testing an essential oil. I was supposed to be testing a face cream. Maybe real, working products aren’t supposed to smell like Amber Sunshine or Midnight Freesia. Maybe the entire cosmetics industry has us fooled. I say that they may have us fooled, because the product actually worked pretty well. I’m not the type to have horribly oily skin, so I can’t speak for the masses, but it did get ALL of my makeup off, and it did make me feel refreshed after 10 hours of being on my feet, which isn’t an easy task to accomplish.
As I mentioned, my mother tested the other products. The scent of the products was a bit strong for her. She’s really sensitive to strong scents, so she took the product off after a few minutes to avoid contracting a headache. However, she LOVED the way the products made her skin feel baby soft! She said that nothing had made her skin feel that soft and refreshed in a long time. It wasn’t greasy, and didn’t make her feel like she was smothering (she has the same issue as I do). It wasn’t heavy on her skin, and didn’t leave behind an uncomfortable residue.
I don’t want to keep any of you reading for too long. I know you have lives to live and you still need to save a few spare moments in order to shop Willing Beauty products at: Annette Johnson's Willing Beauty Shop Page! Or, you could keep up to date with her latest products and sales at her Facebook Page, "Willing Beauty with Annette J"!
So, I’m going to wrap this up. All in all, these products are just as useful as the stuff you’re going to be able to find at your local cosmetics store. In addition to getting an illuminating glow, you’ll also get some peace of mind that you supported a local, startup business when you buy these products. As I always preach in this blog, we should be buying from individuals before corporations. We should be supporting aspiring entrepreneurs. Especially when the prices are as reasonable as you’ll find at Willing Beauty. I’m not much of an anti-aging night cream girl, not for another few years at least, but I’ll definitely be purchasing more of that tinted moisturizer, because come on, I slay in it.
My 6:00am look:
A lip stain that could outlast a Taco Bell Burrito Supreme? A week ago, I would’ve laughed at you. Since I’ve been working front counter at Taco Bell, I’ve become more and more acquainted with their food, and it didn’t take me long to figure out that we’re respectably one of the messiest fast food joints you can find. I got used to reapplying my lipstick every few hours, and I didn’t even bother to try lip stains, because we all know they fade, even if they don’t wipe away at the tiniest mouth action, like most conventional lipsticks. Then, I came across Younique.
They’re probably most well-known for their mascaras, and to be honest, at first that’s what I believed I would be buying and reviewing. Before I could even make it to my online shopping cart, though, I came across a lip stain in one of the most beautiful shades I’d ever seen. “No”, I told myself. “You don’t need lip products, Sierra. You have an entire collection at home!”, but I didn’t have any lip stain in that collection…and certainly not any hydrating mineral-based lip stain. “Okay”, I thought. “I’ll decide on this purchase based on the price.”, and so I clicked the link to the product. It was just over $22. Affordable enough. “One more shade won’t hurt anything.”, I convinced myself. Besides, reviewing an eyeliner would mean showing close-up pictures of my lashes, which is one thing I had always been a bit self-conscious about. With that in mind, I purchased the lip stain in one of the boldest shades available, an orangish, coral-like, bold color dubbed “Shameless”.
It only took a few days to arrive in the mail, something I was particularly happy with. The box looked too big to contain just a lip-product, but I was pleasantly surprised to open it up and find that my order was correct. I was itching to keep the pretty purple tissue paper, but too excited over the new lip stain to bother with saving it, so in the trash can with the box it went. The lip stain went on wet. It took a few seconds longer than expected to dry, but I wasn’t complaining. When it did dry, it had a bit of a sticky texture, but nothing too difficult to grow accustomed to. In fact, I was relieved that the pigment hadn’t dried out my lips, as so many other lip stains had managed to do on the first application. I wiped the stain off with a baby wipe. Three swipes and it was gone. I snickered to myself. This product wouldn’t make it through the first hour of my work day, but I’d go ahead and give it the benefit of the doubt. I had promised the direct sales rep a review, after all.
The next day, I applied my lip stain in the parking lot of the local Wal-Mart. (No judging, I was there to pick up a protein shake for breakfast. I checked the fridge that morning, but was out.) It was about 6:00am. When I arrived at the hospital and sat in the break room waiting for my ride to work to finish up with some paperwork, I fixed myself a mocha latte and cracked open my protein shake. Breakfast was served, and when I had finished, I opened the front-facing camera on my smartphone to check my makeup. The straw in my latte had surprisingly no lipstick residue, and my lips looked perfectly unbothered. Shameless had made it farther than I had expected, but could it stand the test of a hot kitchen, a lot of talking, constant water sipping, and best of all…a Taco Bell lunch?
My after-lunch look (1:00pm):
To my surprise…it actually did. I took my lunch break around 1pm. Up until that point, I hadn’t found a spare moment to check my makeup. So, I decided to go ahead and eat. I’d check the damages afterward. I was shocked to find that 7 hours and an entire Beef Burrito Supreme later, the lip stain was still there, and it was still covering the entirety of my lips. Granted, it wasn’t a beautiful, bright, shameless color anymore, but it was still acceptable. It had faded to a classier, deeper, pinker color. I had hoped that it would fade into something more closely related to the orange hue that I loved so much about it to begin with, but you can only ask for so much, right? I was tempted to reapply, but I refrained. I was going to test this. I mean really test this. I finished my shift at 4pm. I walked about a mile down the road to Sonic. They had a new pretzel dog that I just had to try. I ordered the Bacon Cheddar Pretzel Dog with a small Oreo Master Shake. (Please ignore my two fast food orders in one day. It was a rough one, okay?!?) After eating that, I made my way home. I arrived home around 6pm. Just 12 hours after applying the lip stain that morning. I expected the results to look horrible, and honestly, they didn’t look great. I expected bare lips. Instead, I found traces of the lip stain still sticking to the edges of my lips. Actually, it looked like I had applied a lip liner. Which, when you consider it looked like lip liner without lipstick, sounds horrible, but it was so much better than I expected.
My 12 hours and a hotdog later look (6:00pm):
What is my verdict? This lipstick will get you through an 8-hour shift. It will last through a 6-7-hour school day. Both of those accomplishments are almost too good to be true! However, if you’re going to be out all day, as in 12 hours or more, keep in mind this lip stain isn’t Wonder Woman. It can’t handle everything. If you’re going to be out all day, reapply after you eat lunch, and you’ll be ready to go until you finally decide to remove it. It’s really that simple. It will come off with a simple wet wipe, but it can withstand the messiest of all fast food. I don’t know how it does it, especially without EVER making your lips feel dry or overbearingly sticky, but I really don’t care. All I need to know is where I can get it again, because now that I know I love it, I’m going to be needing one of every color in my collection.
