Some of you readers might recognize the name "Dr. Jeff Shuford". Dr Shuford is a decorated Army veteran and software engineer, as well as the proud founder of "Tech From Vets", which has become well known as a software and programming company, run by veterans, for businesses. I thought that this week would be a good time to spotlight this company once again, because they have recently agreed to expand their outreach by partnering with Bunker Labs Jacksonville to leverage their resources and create a network of investors for veteran-owned startups.
When Tech From Vets was last mentioned in this blog, they were a company focused mainly on application and web design. It's important to note that the company has expanded their horizons since that time, and are now focusing primarily on marketing and building an investor network specifically for small and veteran-owned businesses. With this change of focus has come a change in partnerships as well. In addition to teaming up with Bunker Labs Jacksonville in the coming year, they have also appointed former NFL superstar, better known as Dryaton Florence, to be director of strategic partnerships and create that network for the company.
Many people are now asking the same question: What do football players and veterans have in common? Afterall, it's important that the new director of strategic partnerships understands the needs of the company, and in turn, the perspective of the company's clients, which happen to be composed mainly of veterans. John Fails, executive director of Bunker Labs Jacksonville answered that questioned exquisitly when he was quoted as saying: “There are parallels between the two. They are two different professions that have a certain culture, attitude and drive that push people who belong to them to their limits. When they leave that culture, it can feel alien without a network. Bunker Labs creates a network for veterans who are missing one, and to the same extent NFL players need that same feeling, to depend on the person next to you.” When asked whether Drayton Florence is personally the best man for the job, Tech From Vets’ Public Affairs Officer, Lt. Colonel Rickey Pope, responded smoothly by saying: “Drayton has the ability to expand us into various markets that are not only local but also international. His drive and initiative are unique in the tech industry and will foster the blueprint for tech companies in the future."
Personally, I am excited to see what this change of direction will bring this growing company in the new year. With strong leadership behind it's efforts, a supportive community surrounding it, and promising new business prospects on the horizon...it seems as though 2017 might truly be Tech From Vet's breakout year. The writer's here at "The Writer's Blog" plan to continue to follow this company and the impacts that it makes in every life and buiness that it touches.
